Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about how Safe Foundry works, what it produces, and how plans and data are handled. Can't find an answer? Contact us.

What is COSHH?

COSHH stands for Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. It is a UK regulation that requires employers to assess risks and control exposure to hazardous substances.

What is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS)?

An SDS is a standardised document that lists a substance's hazards, handling guidance, and safety measures. Safe Foundry reads SDS documents to build COSHH assessments.

How accurate are the AI-generated assessments?

Safe Foundry uses SDS source data and best-practice controls to draft assessments. Your team can review and edit before approval.

Can I edit the generated assessments?

Yes. Every assessment can be reviewed, edited, and signed off by your team before it is finalised.

Is my data secure?

We use secure storage and access controls to protect your documents and assessments.

Do I still need a competent person to review assessments?

Yes. Safe Foundry produces draft assessments that are structured for review and sign-off. A competent person should always check and approve each assessment before it is relied upon.

Which platforms is Safe Foundry available on?

Safe Foundry runs as a web app in your browser and as native apps for iOS and Android, so your team can create and manage assessments at a desk or on site.

What does the AI produce?

A structured COSHH assessment covering substance and manufacturer details, persons at risk, hazard classification, hazard type, route of exposure, workplace exposure limits, fire-fighting measures, and health risks and controls.

How do credits work?

Credits are used when you upload a Safety Data Sheet to generate an assessment. The number of credits a document uses is dynamic and depends on the document, so a monthly allowance covers a variable number of assessments.

Do top-up credits expire?

Top-up credit packs are one-off and are used after your monthly subscription credits. They expire after a set period (6 months by default).

Who manages billing and seats?

Billing is handled at the organisation level. Organisation admins manage the subscription, seats and any top-up purchases for the whole team.

How are my uploaded files handled?

Uploads are validated for a valid file structure and readable SDS content, and can be scanned for malware, before they are processed.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can change plans as your team's needs change. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Does Safe Foundry guarantee compliance?

Safe Foundry helps you produce assessments faster and more consistently, but it does not replace professional judgement. You remain responsible for ensuring your assessments are suitable and sufficient for your workplace.

Can I unlock COSHH assessments without a subscription?

Yes. A one-time purchase on the web permanently unlocks manual COSHH assessment creation for your organisation — no subscription needed, and no per-report charges afterwards. You fill in the assessment form yourself, and can optionally use the one-time introductory AI fill to draft it from your Safety Data Sheet. Current prices are shown on the pricing page and at checkout.

What is the refund policy for one-off purchases?

An unused unlock or AI-fill purchase is refundable on request within 14 days. At checkout you expressly consent to immediate supply of digital content and acknowledge that the 14-day cancellation right is lost once the purchase is used — the COSHH unlock counts as used when your organisation creates its first assessment after unlocking, and an AI fill counts as used once it has run. If an unlock is refunded, COSHH assessment creation is locked again for your organisation. The introductory AI-fill offer is available once per organisation; after that, AI fills are funded by credits.

Do paid plans limit how many assessments I can create?

No. Every paid plan includes unlimited COSHH assessment creation — the assessment figures shown on plan cards are an indicative guide, not a cap, and deleting a report never affects what you can create. Plans differ in monthly credits, team seats and export options. Fair-use rate limits apply to protect the service.
